3 months on, we take a look at some of the incredible LittleBigPlanet 2 beta levels.
So, you’ve found yourself looking at this article. Maybe you’re looking for some LBP 2 inspiration, maybe you’re deciding whether or not to buy the game, maybe you just feel like watching almost 3 hours worth of LBP 2 beta footage, either way – enjoy!
It has been just over 3 months since the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta went live, and since that time, creators have made some truly incredible things.
NOTE: This article is in no way a countdown, as I would have about 10 levels at the #1 spot. Also, the levels featured are only based on videos. If there is not a video available for the level on the interwebs, it won’t be included.
I should also add that, due to lack of beta access, I have not actually played any of these levels.
Along with each video is a link to the video director, and I would really recommend clicking the director links for more LBP 2 beta footage. Simply click on their name to open to their YouTube page (in another tab/window).
ANOTHER NOTE: There’s no need to worry about cluttering your tabs. Upon clicking the ‘Click here’ link for videos, the video will open in a gallery view, embedded upon this very web page – magic!

1. RPG-Concept (FINAL VERSION) by Denjo92
Video (Click here) by Sackinima
Description: One of the first things that I saw from the beta which really amazed me, DENJO92 has updated this level a number of times. The final version features an interactive menu as well as a battle mechanic, which both work incredibly well.
2. Sackometry Wars by GruntosUK
Video (Click here) by ChimpanzeePS3
Description: Top-down twin-stick shooters are perfect for LBP 2, as GruntosUK has proved with his LBP 2 remake of Geometry Wars. The use of holographic materials really makes this game feel like a space-aged shooter, and it is unlike anything we’ve seen in LBP before.
3. Final Fantasy VII Remake Preview by Chree
Video (Click here) by MrShuanji
Description: A level which has made Final Fantasy fans scream “MOAR!”, this Final Fantasy 7 remake ticks all of the boxes. It features top-down map gameplay along with a battle system, and this is only a concept. CHREE hopes to make as much as the full game as possible within LBP 2 when it is released.
4. flOw – Life could be sacked by Raphaei
Video (Click here) by ChimpanzeePS3
Description: Raphaei has made some truly incredible levels in the beta, and they have grabbed a lot of attention. flOw was the first remake that he created on the beta, and its resemblance to the real game is simply amazing. It is perhaps the most viewed/played LBP 2 level out right now, and that’s for a good reason.
5. Empty Uniform by Leather-Monkey
Video (Click here) by Sackinima
Description: A great example of how the new movie creating tools, along with sackbots, can create a range of film genres. This particular film acts as a teaser for what Leather-Monkey will be working on when LBP 2 is released and, although short, the film is very cool.
6. Sackro Machines 2 by Splapp-Me-Do
Video (Click here) by ChimpanzeePS3
Description: Micro Machines is one of the games that I played a lot when I was younger, and so it’s awesome to see re-created in LBP 2. Splapp-Me-Do (which is the name of the guy who did the Impossible Quiz, but I’m not sure if it’s actually him) got this re-ecreation spot on, especially with the car sounds as they skid around the course. This looks incredibly fun to play online!
7. Sackenstein 3D by Raphaei
Video (Click here) by MrShuanji
Description: It’s not possible to make a proper first person shooter in LBP 2 is it? Well, actually, it is. Raphaei really pushed the boundaries of what is possible with LBP 2 with this Wolfenstein 3D re-make. Ok, so it might give you a bit of a headache to watch, but it is the most incredible thing I’ve seen the the beta thus far, and I can’t wait to see how Raphaei can build on this to make more FPS’ in the future.
8. Mario World 1-1 (8-bit) by CVB23E & Kurobit
Video (Click here) by MrShuanji
Description: Mario levels are extremely common in the first LBP, but none actually come close to the real game. This creation by CVB23E and Kurobit, however, could be mistaken (admittedly, by a stupid person) for the real game. The 8-bit animations on Mario work very well, making the game not look like LBP at all.
9. Sony vs Marvel Vs Capcom by Polloizarraraz43, Emoguy & Psyntens
Video (Click here) by AustrianVGC
Description: Another level which looks like great fun to play on 2-player, Sony vs Marvel vs Capcom makes the dream that you never realized you had come true. The video shows Kratos (God of War) squaring off against Sev (Killzone), but other characters include Snake Solid, Spider Man, Nathan Drake, Cole McGrath, The Incredible Hulk, Morrigan, Ryu and Ken among others.
10. The Piano – Amazing short by oLMCo
Video (Click here) by Mish9volt
Description: This is a remake of an animated short film which can be found on Youtube under the same name as the level. A story of love, life and death despite having absolutely no dialogue, this short is a brilliant re-creation by oLMCo.

What a great article! A one-stop shop for some of the best work in the beta (not too sure about #16 though :) ) Haven’t had a chance to check-out all of the videos yet obviously but I’ll have to wade through later to take a look at the ones I haven’t seen. Thanks Matt.
Thanks Chimp. I think Pegged really outlines how holographic materials and controllinators can be used to make something which doesn’t look anything like LBP, and it has always amazed me how the rebound and long shots work, because I still can’t work it out :P
I like that about a lot of these levels, I can’t work out how they were done, and so it adds some excitement for me for when I buy the game, giving the the opportunity to play around to find out how it does work, and maybe to create something new along the way.
Thanks. And at least YOU found the bonuses! EDGE obviously didn’t :)
I believe I’ve only actually tried Fl0w out of those :/
…I probably should try some of these :D
like Pac Man and Tower Defence, you know… the classics :P
indeed these levels or games are very good, I for example Pegged was the first level that I really liked, although I would have liked to see my sackboy sitting on the controlinator, sackfighter good level of dedication to be surprised at So I thought it would be one of those that will impact later, as did UPSILANDRE WITH LITTLE BIG CALCULATOR, finally I’m flattered to be on this list. I hope you understand my English
